Lubbock International Airport’s Training Facility. The facility contains a mock airplane, a control room and a system to retrieve and cycle the fuel and water used in the training. The mock airplane sits in an area called the pit, the pit is designed so fires can be started in 13 different areas in and around the aircraft. The aircraft combines several aircraft in one. The body is a Boeing 737, the wings are different heights to simulate a 737 and a 757. Lubbock’s fire pit is only the fourth in the country with its design, and the only one in Texas. The facility took 8 months to construct and cost 2.8 million dollars. Click below to see larger images or return to projects.
