 The History of Brown-McKee, Inc.
Brown-McKee, Inc. was established in 1955 as a
Texas based design/build, heavy industrial construction and
engineering firm building agricultural related projects including
grain storage and material handling systems, cottonseed storage,
handling and extraction processing facilities as well as commercial
feed mill and feedlot operation facilities. During the early years
BMI also expanded into public works and heavy construction including
water systems plant construction, pipelines, pump stations and
reverse osmosis systems as well as gas compressor stations and
remote blend fertilizer plants.
Continuing to service our existing agricultural industry
related customers through the early 1980's along with the addition of the dairy
industry; we also expanded our operations to include manufacturing and
processing. These projects included facilities to manufacture and/or process
fiberglass, composition shingles, plate glass, insulation, cement, lime, coal
and plastics. In addition we completed several projects related to food
processing, which included facilities for snack food, frozen meats and liquid
bottling operations.
Expanding into commercial construction in the late 1980's,
BMI has successfully completed buildings for both the public and private sector
including offices for commercial business, public school facilities and the
communications industry. Thru the 1990's we also expanded our pre-engineered
metal building capabilities constructing 500,000 square feet of warehouse space
per year, and since 2001 BMI has been a designated Job Order Contractor for
Texas Tech University working in support of the Building & Maintenance
Construction department of TTU Physical Plant while successfully completing over
100 individual projects.
Today, we continue to pursue both negotiated design/build
work and competitively bid projects in all of these industries throughout the
United States, maintaining a dozen different state licenses and self performing
work in the concrete, millwright, steel erection and process piping trades.
